Install Reporting Intelligence Suite

Other ERPs - this article only applies to Reporting Intelligence for other ERPs

This article describes the system requirements, prerequisites, and steps to install Reporting Intelligence.

What is Reporting Intelligence?

Reporting Intelligence is a comprehensive Excel add-in that connects Microsoft Excel to your ERP system. It provides live access to financial data including GL, AP, AR, PO, Inventory, Sales, and more, without rekeying or downloading data manually. With Reporting Intelligence, you can build reports ranging from simple ad hoc workbooks to complex financial dashboards, while maintaining the full functionality of Excel.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites are required. If they are not already installed on your machine, the installer installs them automatically when you select the components to install:

  • .NET 4.8 Framework
  • Access Runtime
  • Visual C++ 2015 Runtime
  • Visual Studio Tools for Office 4.0 Runtime
  • .NET 10

Before You Begin

Before installing Reporting Intelligence, verify the following:

  • If Spreadsheet Server is installed on your machine, you must uninstall it completely before installing Reporting Intelligence. Installing over an existing Spreadsheet Server installation is not supported.
  • Reporting Intelligence requires a Platform account. Legacy license key authentication is not supported. If you do not have a Platform account, contact your administrator.
  • A user with the Account Manager role is required to download Reporting Intelligence and access Application Configurator. If your organization has not been set up in Platform by an Account Manager, end users will be blocked during installation and redirected to their Account Manager.
  • Close any open Excel files before starting the installation.

Download the Installer

Navigate to download.insightsoftware.com/installation/reporting-intelligence and download the installer that applies to you:

  • ReportingIntelligenceSetup.exe — a consolidated installer that detects your ERP and downloads the correct product installer automatically.
  • ReportingIntelligenceSetup.msi — for IT administrators deploying via SCCM, Intune, or Group Policy.

Alternative: Download the Add-In from Reporting Intelligence Online

If you already have a Platform account and access to Reporting Intelligence Online, from 26.3 you can download the desktop Excel add-in directly from the product, without navigating to the public download page.

  1. Sign in to Reporting Intelligence Online.
  2. Select Download Desktop Excel Add-in, located in the top right of the page, below the help icon.

  3. The consolidated installer downloads. Continue from step 2 under Install Using the EXE.

Note:

  • This option is available to all users regardless of license or role.
  • After installation completes, reopen Excel and sign in before the Reporting Intelligence ribbon appears.
  • Mac is not supported.

Install Using the EXE

The EXE installer runs in two stages. First, a consolidated installer asks which ERP system you use and downloads the correct product installer for it. Second, that product installer completes the actual Reporting Intelligence installation.

Stage 1: Select your ERP

  1. Navigate to the Downloads page and download the Reporting Intelligence installer. The installer downloads as a .zip file.
  2. Extract all files from the downloaded .zip file. Open the extracted folder and locate ReportingIntelligenceSetup.exe.
  3. Right-click ReportingIntelligenceSetup.exe and select Run as administrator to launch the installer.

  4. Click Next to continue.
  5. On the Select ERP screen, select Other from the dropdown to download Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs.

  6. Click Next. The installer downloads and launches the correct installer for your ERP.

Stage 2: Complete the installation

  1. On the Welcome to Reporting Intelligence screen, click Next to continue.

  2. On the Pick your ERP screen, select your specific ERP system from the dropdown, then click Next.

  4. Click Next.
  5. On the Please select all desired components to install screen, Reporting Intelligence is selected by default. If you are an Account Manager setting up Reporting Intelligence for your organization, also select Application Configurator. Click Install.

Note: If Excel is open when you reach this step, a Running Programs Detected dialog appears. Close Excel and click Retry to continue.

  6. A browser window opens and prompts you to sign in to your Platform account. Sign in with your Platform credentials. Once signed in, return to the installer.
  7. The installation progress screen appears. Wait for the installation to complete.

  8. On the Reporting Intelligence Installed screen, optionally select Create Desktop Shortcuts. Select the here link to view install logs if needed. Click Finish to exit the setup.

Install Using the MSI (IT Administrators)

Use this option to deploy Reporting Intelligence silently across multiple machines via SCCM, Intune, or Group Policy.

Note: The ERP parameter only determines which product installer downloads. Use "Other" for any non-Microsoft-Dynamics ERP, including all Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs systems. The parameter accepts the following values:

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central - Public Cloud
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central - On Premise
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV
  • Microsoft Dynamics GP
  • Microsoft Fabric
  • Other

Note: Oracle ERP Cloud, NetSuite, Infor FSM, and Infor M3 are Data Hub-connected ERPs. For more information, see Data Hub Connections. For the remaining ERPs, contact support to set up your connection.

To perform a silent installation using the MSI:

  1. Download ReportingIntelligenceSetup.msi from the Reporting Intelligence Downloads page.
  2. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
  3. Run the following command:
msiexec /i ReportingIntelligenceSetup.msi /quiet ERP="Other" EXTRAARGS="/Install=full /License=Platform"

Silent Installation Using the EXE

Note: The ERP parameter only determines which product installer downloads. Use "Other" for any non-Microsoft-Dynamics ERP, including all Reporting Intelligence for Other ERPs systems. The parameter accepts the following values:

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central - Public Cloud
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central - On Premise
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV
  • Microsoft Dynamics GP
  • Microsoft Fabric
  • Other

Note: For ERP connection setup after installation, see Data Hub connections.

To run a silent installation using the EXE, run the following command from an administrator Command Prompt:

ReportingIntelligenceSetup.exe /S /ERP="Other" /Install=full /License=Platform

The /S switch is required for silent mode and is case sensitive. The /ERP= value is required, and /License=Platform (or /License=Key) is required for silent installs. If either is not provided or is not recognized, the installation exits with a non-zero code and writes the error to the log file at:

%TEMP%\insightsoftware\ReportingIntelligenceSetup.log

Note: When running a silent installation, you can pass the same commands directly to the consolidated installer. The consolidated installer forwards them automatically to the Reporting Intelligence product installer based on your ERP selection.
